On December 8, 2021, at approximately 6:27 am Parsons Police Officer Russel Parsons was dispatched to the 2100 block of Crawford for a report of someone breaking into a home and stealing a Nintendo Switch.

Officer Parsons was told that the victim had woke up to take out their dog when they noticed that the backdoor had been damaged. The victim looked at their video surveillance camera and found a white male had quietly entered the home and stole a few select electronics and exited while he and his children were still asleep. Some of the items that were stolen were a white Xbox One S game console and three controllers along with a Nintendo Switch and controller.

The video was reviewed by Parsons officers and the suspect was identified as William Lee Myers, 23 of Parsons. Later that day, around 12:50 pm Officers were called back to the neighborhood again for a report of William Myers being seen. Sergeant Waylon Kepley arrived in the area and identified Myers from the video. Myers was arrested on suspicion of Aggravated Burglary, Criminal Damage and Theft. During the arrest of Myers, the officers located a backpack with all of the stolen items that was reported earlier that day. Myers was brought to the Parsons Police Department without incident and felony charges are being forwarded to the Labette County Attorney's Office.

Parsons Police Chief Robert Spinks said, "this case was quickly solved from the use of quality home cameras the owner had. It is terrible to think that this criminal was brazen enough to burglarize a occupied home, but to do so with the family still in the house is terrifying. We are lucky that this case did not end up deadly. All across America there have been burglars shot in the homes of their victims. I am glad this was not the case. I would not want anyone to be forced to live with that weight on their shoulders for defending their family or their home. Luckily this case was solved quickly, and a good solid arrest was made. Now we look forward to the judicial system to do their part in this matter and hold Mr. Myers accountable for his actions."
