Annual Report Crime in 2018

04/08/2019

"The 2018 Annual Report has been a real eye opener for members of the Parsons Police Department," claimed Parsons Police Chief Robert Spinks. "This report gives so much more than just the raw numbers in crime. It also gives the department an opportunity to learn where more improvements can be made and where our focus needs to be directed," Spinks continued.

2018 showed a significant drop in violent crimes. Assaults and Rapes are down from 2017. Property crimes are down as well. Thefts were at a four year low with only 336 reported compared to 2017's high of 591. Burglaries are also down from 2017 at 124 for 2018 from 161. Vehicle Thefts are down while Robberies are maintaining at 6 for 2017 and 2018. This decline can be attributed to officers being in the public and being seen along with our arrest data. We are maintaining fairly consist numbers for total arrest in 2018. The last three years total arrest numbers have been over 500. At 595 in 2018 that is the highest in the past 3 years but still significantly lower than the 2014 high of 842 arrest.

These statistics along with our economic development program will continue to make Parsons a more livable community. A cities livability scale goes up as crime goes down and development continues. This means that Parsons is on the rise, and that is our goal for our community. With the communities support the Parsons Police Department will continue to provide the resources and time to make our city enjoyable to visit and safe to live in.

Chief Spinks says "our tagline 'See It, Hear It, Report It' will continue to be our calling card at the Parsons Police Department, and we intend to live by it. If you see a crime or hear about one, please give a call and let us provide the type of assistance you have come to expect from your police department."
