Pursuit Ends in Drug Seizure

Acting on a lead from a separate criminal investigation, on October 31, 2018 at approximately 12:25 AM Parsons Police Officers went to The Canterbury Inn, 400 Main, to look for a wanted individual. On October 30, 2018 Cornel Owens, black/male age 41, of Iola, Kansas was reported to be staying at a room in the hotel. Owens was reported as having a warrant from Neosho County Kansas, it was also reported that Owens had violent tendencies toward law enforcement and was reported to routinely carry a gun.

When officers spotted Cornel Owens at The Canterbury Inn, he fled in a 2004 Chevy Suburban with Arizona plates. Officers pursued Owens through Parsons until he fled on foot from the vehicle while it was still in motion, the vehicle then crashed into a tree in the 800 block of South 18th. Officers pursued Owens on foot but was not able to catch him. Parsons Police Sergeant Tim Jones and Officer Joel Franklin secured the vehicle at the scene of the crash. A search of the vehicle revealed Methamphetamines, Marijuana, Cash, a Fentanyl Patch, and a loaded Taurus Judge revolver.

Labette County Sheriff deputies assisted Parsons PD by securing the hotel room where they contacted the registered owner of the 2004 Chevy Suburban, Victor Allen Lindberg, white/male age 38, of Arizona. He was detained at the room. A search warrant was applied for and served on the room leading to the discovery of two more handguns more methamphetamines and Oxycodone, along with narcotics paraphernalia. Lindberg was arrested and charges are being submitted for Sale/Distribution of Certain Stimulants, Possession of certain Stimulants, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Possession of a Controlled Substance, Criminal Possession of a Firearm by a Felon, and Defacing Identification Marks of a Firearm.
