Juvenile Stabbing

12/19/2018

On December 18, 2018 at approximately 9:11 PM Parsons Police Officers were dispatched to a house in the 2500 Block of Chess for a report of a 10-year-old juvenile having been stabbed by another juvenile.

Officers arrived and found a 10-year-old juvenile with an approximate 2-inch deep stab wound to the right forearm. The juvenile stated that he was stabbed by a neighboring 14-year-old. Officer Kyle Shields rendered first aid and informed the Guardian that the wound would need further medical assistance. The Guardian later transported the Juvenile to Labette Health Emergency Room for treatment.

Corporal Brice Dickens assisted in the investigation and sub-sequentially took into custody a 14-year-old suspect for one count of Aggravated Battery and one count of Aggravated Assault. The 14-year-old was later transported to Girard Juvenile Detention Facility, to await his court appearance.

Parsons Police Chief Robert Spinks says, "juvenile cases prove more difficult for officers due to privacy and parental cooperation requirements, but Officers Shields and Dickens conducted themselves admirably and were able to provide aid and assistance in a difficult situation."

"What's so frustrating with this incident is the need for adults to supervise, guide and direct their kids," says Spinks, "this incident arose from unsupervised kids playing tag with a knife in the dark of night. If that's not a recipe for a problem what is?"

This continues to be an on-going investigation and citizens are encouraged to "See It, Hear It, Report It." If anyone has any further information on this incident or any other criminal activity, please contact the Parsons Police Department at 421-7060 or call the Tip Line at 421-7057 or email at tips@parsonspd.com.
