The Parsons Police Department has been awarded the 'AAA' Platinum Award for traffic safety for the 7th year in a row. AAA announced the awards on March 1st that 35 law enforcement agencies comprising of 26 police departments and 9 sheriff's departments were given awards for their efforts in traffic safety.

Parsons had been given this honor for 7 years and continues to be humbled each year. To be ranked among some of the top agencies in the state is a feat in itself. Kansas has 371 law enforcement agencies and Parsons is among the top 35 in traffic safety.

Parsons Police Chief Robert Spinks said "I am excited to continue this tradition each year. I have to give credit to our Traffic Safety Coordinator Corporal Tyeler Riggs. His continued work has made it possible for our agency to get awarded. He coordinates the Kansas Department of Transportation funded traffic campaigns such as Click It or Ticket, and You Drink, You Drive, You Loose. These campaigns take a significant investment in time management and paperwork each year and Corporal Riggs has been up to the challenge. "

This award is not just about ticket writing, it is about community education, awareness, common sense enforcement and reducing crashes in our community. Our agency has a philosophy of using the lowest level of enforcement to gain the highest level of voluntary compliance.

We have maintained a decreasing trend of crashes over the past seven years, even as our rate of citations has decreased of the same period of time.

This award is a real win for our entire community.
