Over the evening hours and into the morning of December 12th and 13th residences and vehicles in Parsons were plagued by a string of burglaries.

Officers took reports of burglaries from city employees at the municipal maintenance shop on North 21st Street where five vehicles were rummaged through. One of the vehicles sustained damage where the door was pried open, the remaining vehicles were all unlocked and not damaged. Also, in that vicinity a lock was damaged on a trailer owned by the Parsons Fire Department, nothing was taken from the trailer.

There was also a shed that was entered, and two chainsaws were stolen from a residence near the maintenance building. Further down the street at Ruskin's Manufacturing an unlocked vehicle was burglarized, and hunting items were stolen. Along with these incidents there were also two homes that were burglarized where the back doors were kicked in and items were stolen. One house is in the 1300 block of Morgan and another near the 7Press Release00 block of North 10th Street. In these cases, firearms, money, and jewelry were taken from the homes.

Police are currently investigating all these cases and suspect that they were all conducted by the same criminals. While following up on leads officers are making a list of suspects and persons of interest. The Parsons Police Department takes this opportunity to remind citizens of precautionary measures to safeguard their homes and belongings:

1. Illuminate your property adequately.
2. Consider investing in a security system.
3. Ensure all property, including sheds, garages, and vehicles, are securely locked.
4. Foster a sense of community by getting to know your neighbors and keeping an eye on each other's property.
5. Exercise caution on social media; avoid announcing vacation plans or travel.
6. Avoid hiding keys in easily accessible places.
7. Keep valuables out of plain sight.
8. Consider investing in a secure home safe.
9. Stay alert to unfamiliar individuals or suspicious activities around your property.
10. Embrace the 9 pm Routine: lock all doors, secure vehicles, and check your property.

Parsons Police Chief Robert Spinks said, "My staff is dedicated to apprehending these criminals and ensuring justice is served. These despicable acts highlight the need for stricter measures in our courts to deter criminals from preying on our city. Together with the community, we are poised to make positive changes in Parsons."
