On February 10, 2024, at approximately 10:04 pm, Parsons Police were notified about a possible stolen vehicle. Officers were dispatched to the 1500 block of South 25th Street to speak to the victim.

Officers were notified about a domestic situation in which a white male who was identified as Peter Eugene Olsen Jr., 26 of Coffeyville, had stolen a 2018 Chevrolet Traverse from his ex-girlfriend in the 200 block of Willow Ave. in Parsons. It was reported that Peter had taken a purse and the vehicle keys and left with the vehicle from the Willow address. He reportedly made a statement that he would not go back to prison and there would be a "suicide by cop" if he were caught.

Officers quickly located the vehicle back at the residence on Willow and were notified that there were two firearms in the residence belonging to the victim. With that information and the comment about a "suicide by cop" officers set up a perimeter around the house. Information was gathered that Peter may be in the residence. Officers attempted to make contact with Peter but were not successful. The homeowner gave officers permission to enter the residence.

Officers entered the house and located Peter, unarmed. Officers took Peter into custody without incident. Peter, who was recently released from prison, was on federal probation for a weapons charge. Peter was arrested on suspicion of Aggravated Burglary, Felony Theft, Misdemeanor Theft and Domestic Battery.  

Peter was taken to the Parsons Police Department for processing. An affidavit with the charges was faxed to Labette County District Judge Fred Johnson and Peter was given a $20,000.00 cash surety bond.

Parsons Police Chief Robert Spinks said, "As unfortunate as this incident is for the victim, we are lucky that it did not turn deadly. Domestic situations are volatile and unpredictable at best. We are happy that Mr. Olsen did not wish to make good on his previous threats and went into custody peacefully. We can only hope that the judicial system does their part and hold him accountable for his actions."             

This continues to be an on-going investigation and citizens are encouraged to "See It, Hear It, Report It." All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
