05/03/2024

On May 1, 2024, the Parsons Police Department proudly celebrated Corporal Rory Johnson's exceptional valor, as he was bestowed with the prestigious Silver Award for Uncommon Valor by the Kansas Association of Chiefs of Police (KACP). This distinguished recognition was in honor of his life-saving actions in April of 2023. Nominated by the Police Department and selected by KACP, Corporal Johnson received this esteemed accolade during the annual KACP conference held at the Kansas Star Casino in Mulvane, Kansas.

Joining the Parsons Police Department in 2021 and swiftly ascending to the rank of Corporal in 2023, Johnson has distinguished himself as a proactive and dedicated member of the force. Notably serving as a Taser and Pepper Spray Instructor, his commitment to excellence shines through in all aspects of his service.

"In moments of crisis, true heroes emerge, and Corporal Rory Johnson exemplifies the finest qualities of our profession," remarked Parsons Police Chief Robert Spinks. "His unwavering courage and decisive actions epitomize the dedication to public service that defines our department."

Patrol Lieutenant Kyle Wiford added, "Corporal Johnson's quick thinking and selfless response reflect the highest standards of law enforcement. His dedication to duty serves as an example of excellence to us all."

In April of 2023, Corporal Johnson responded to a distress call from former Parsons Officer Luke Schibi at the Parsonian Apartments. Officer Schibi urgently requested assistance after a resident fell through a large window. Upon arrival, Corporal Johnson adeptly assessed the critical situation, immediately springing into action. Recognizing the urgent need for first aid, he swiftly applied pressure to a severe abdominal wound while providing essential support to Officer Schibi, who attended to a leg injury. Corporal Johnson's unwavering dedication to rendering aid persisted until Emergency Medical Services arrived, ultimately credited with saving the individual's life.

Furthermore, Deputy Luke Schibi of the Labette County Sheriff's Office received commendation from KACP for his contributions during his tenure with the Parsons Police Department, underscoring the collaborative spirit and excellence within law enforcement.

Chief Robert Spinks and Deputy Chief Dennis Dodd was in attendance at the conference to witness the award and honor Corporal Johnson.
